Look across class, gender, race, sexuality, religion and all the other dimensions of our identities. Historically, many of these differences have been used to exclude individuals from certain spaces. So when we talk about inclusive spaces, and when we talk about equality, what are people really asking for? At a fundamental level, I think people are asking to be seen. And sometimes that starts with the simplest things: asking someone how their day has been. How we greet someone. Taking a genuine interest in the person in front of us. Moving away from the purely transactional way in which we can sometimes engage with one another.
