Preserve your power

One of the most underrated leadership qualities is the ability to observe before reacting. When people underestimate you, they often reveal far more than they intended. They speak more freely, make assumptions, and demonstrate how they think. If you are paying attention, you learn far more by listening than by trying to prove a point. Not every assumption needs to be corrected, not every opinion deserves a response, and not every room is designed to understand your perspective.

There is strength in remaining composed as sometimes the most effective response is to ask another question, to listen a little longer, or to allow silence to do its work. Calm observation often provides better information than immediate reaction.

I think that the people who feel the greatest need to prove how intelligent they are rarely the strongest leaders. Confidence speaks quietly and it does not need constant validation. Strategic restraint should never be confused with weakness. It is the discipline to respond with intention rather than emotion, to gather information before forming conclusions, and to choose carefully where your energy is invested. In leadership, influence is rarely built by saying more, in my experience it is built by understanding more.

Failure is not an option

In investing, as in life, every dip teaches, and every fall refines. Each setback is not an end, but a stepping stone, it’s an opportunity to learn, adjust, and grow. The butterfly only takes flight after enduring the struggle, and so too must we embrace the challenges that shape us. Stay invested, both financially and personally, and commit to continuous evolution. Learn from the fall, acknowledge the journey, and take the time to investigate what lies beneath the surface. I think that only then can you rise again, wiser, stronger, and with renewed purpose.

TIP: L-U-V listening

I recently listened to a podcast where L.U.V listening was briefly described and it made me realise how many sales and marketing people preach - bla, bla, bla…
It’s the season of goodwill, so see below a L.U.V tip.

L – One important aspect of effective communication is learning how to listen. Listen without judgment, with your ears, eyes and heart to understand my situation

U – Understand: Repeat back in your own words to show understanding. I think that there is nothing that feels better to a human being than to feel understood.

V – The last step is validation, validate my feelings by expressing empathy even if you disagree. Try to put yourself in his or her shoes and consider how one might see it that way or how one might view it that way.
